Modest community grapevine saves $1 million win for Iowa man

Drawing Date: 8/19/2022

August 23, 2022 - An upper east Iowa man said he was so bothered when he understood he'd won a $1 million Mega Millions® award that he abandoned his triumphant ticket at the store where he really look at it.

However, there is a cheerful completion: The modest community grapevine reconnected him with the ticket inside around 30 minutes.

"I'm still in shock. There's something off about my stomach," Smidgen Alber of West Association expressed Tuesday as he guaranteed his award at Iowa Lottery base camp in Clive.

Alber, 57, said he was working Saturday at the West Association Occasion Center, which is claimed by his family, and had not yet heard that a ticket bought in the close by local area of Ossian had won a $1 million award in Friday's Super Millions drawing.

As the evening went on, Alber said he got ravenous and chosen to go to a nearby store for some chicken. While he was there, he requested that the representatives check his Super Millions tickets.

Alber said that when the assistant let him know he'd won $1 million, he was so flimsy and invigorated, he abandoned the triumphant ticket.

"I nearly neglected to pay for the chicken," he said. "They told me, 'You must purchase the chicken' So I pivoted and purchased the chicken and left!"

In the wake of returning to the occasion place, Alber said that he had recently wrapped up telling his sibling, Jeff, and sister by marriage, Luann, his enormous news when Luann's sister called. She deals with the store where he had actually looked at his triumphant ticket.
